The Chappel Chocolate House makes and sells handmade, fine artisan chocolates as well as running workshops, demonstrations and chocolate parties for children and adults.

Formed in 2012, and located in Chappel, Colchester, it is run by Chocolatier Sarah Knights. Sarah started making chocolates following a professional baking and patisserie course. Inspired by her experience, she started making chocolates for friends and family and has expanded her knowledge and expertise by attending professional chocolate and confectionary making workshops at a leading international chocolate academy.

“Before starting on my ‘chocolate journey’ I worked in the telecoms industry and then with my husband running our own railway engineering business where I was (and still am) Finance Director in my spare time! The railway business also operates Poplar Miniature Railway at Poplar Nurseries Marks Tey.

In May 2012, I was asked to run a stall at a local pub ‘fund raiser’ and loved it so much I decided to set up my own business. Since then I have expanded to make a wider range of chocolates, which I have sold to local hotels, friends, at local farmer’s markets, school fund raisers at other local events. I specialise in the design and production of handmade chocolates for special events, running chocolate parties, giving demonstrations and holding workshops. I can also offer private tuition on chocolate making, bread making and AGA cookery.

I am dedicated to producing the very best handmade chocolates, using high quality ingredients. I use fine Belgian chocolate to make a range of chocolates for children and adults which include truffles, pralines (moulded and cut), moulded chocolates, bars, lollies, solid and hollow shapes and confectionery using both traditional and my own recipes.

If you have a special event coming up, be it a wedding, birthday, anniversary or corporate event or if you are a hotel or restaurant looking for some chocolates I would love to hear from you.

I run ‘at home’ birthday and celebration parties for all age groups within the Colchester, Witham, Halstead, Braintree, South Suffolk (Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds) area. At one of my parties, as well as having some fun with chocolate, you will learn how to temper chocolate, make lollies, chocolate bars, truffles, chocolate pizzas, chocolate kebabs – the list is endless! The great thing is that I will tailor the party to your needs, come to you and take home all the mess! All you have to do is invite your guests and set the date. The only limitation is the size of your kitchen/dining room table! If you would like to make an enquiry or book me for a party please click here.

I also organise and run demonstrations, workshops on chocolate making. I will come to your home, work or meeting place to run these by request. For example if you are a business looking to arrange some team building for your employees, if you are an organisation (eg guide troop, WI, social club) wanting to arrange activities for your members or if you are involved in fund raising (school, pta, charity) and need assistance I would love to hear from you if you have an enquiry or would like to book me.

At the moment I work from home, but am planning to offer courses from York House in late 2014/early 2015. More information about this will follow later in the year.
